March 7-10th

Dear Parents,

We got to have a very fun Friday Surprise last week! We made mazes for marbles out of paper plates and other supplies. Students should have brought their mazes home, so hopefully you got to see theirs! They were so creative!

Here is what we are doing in class this week:

Reading: This week we will be reading tall tales. We will talk about cause and effect and visualizing what we are reading. Our spelling is list #22 with open syllables. Students should be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs.

Math: This week we will be finishing our Geometry unit. We will learn how to join and separate angles as well as find the missing measures of angles. We will review on Thursday so students should bring home their pretest as a study guide. We will take our test on Friday. On one page of homework this week, students will need to use a protractor. If you don’t have one at home, students are welcome to stay in from recess or stay after school for a couple of minutes to borrow one of mine for the questions that require a protractor.

Writing: This week we will be doing another explanatory essay. We will be writing about renewable and non-renewable resources. We will do a prewrite and then go straight to typing it. We will anonymously also look at other people’s papers and practice revising them to make them better and grading them to see what scores they would receive.

Science: Students will get to learn about reptiles and amphibians this week. We will discuss what their skin is like, how they catch their prey, whether they are warm-blooded or cold-blooded, etc. We will also spend a day learning about birds and a variety of beak types.

Social Studies: This week in social studies we will be talking about other immigrants that came to Utah after the pioneers. We will also talk about how immigrants still come to Utah. Then we will start talking about how Utah became a state.

This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #22 – 20 mins study
Lesson 11.1-P207, 11.2-P209, 11.3-P211
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday

Thanks!

Mrs. Wheatley
