March 13-17th

Dear Parents,

We had such a good week last week! We got so many rocks in our party jar because we were working so hard and so quiet! It was wonderful! Also, we are getting such good scores in My Access on our writing prompts. I am so proud of everyone’s writing! We have a class full of great writers! We are so excited for our field trip this week. Please make sure that your student gets to school on time this Friday and if they signed up to bring a home lunch, don’t forget that. If you signed up to come with us, please make sure that you are here by 9:15 with your own lunch, ready to go. Thanks again!

Here is what we are doing in class this week:

Reading: This week we will be reading biographies. We will talk about problems and solutions in a text and practice summarizing. Our spelling is list #23 with vowel teams. Students should be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs.

Math: This week we will do a STEAM activity with geometry. Students did so well with our geometry unit that we are going to be designing and making a miniature mini-golf. We will use the different principles we learned in our geometry unit as we design each hole.

Writing: This week we will be doing another opinion essay. We will be writing about if we should study our garbage or not. We will practice for SAGE by doing our essay in the amount of time students will have on SAGE. In Target Time this week we will be looking at example essays and practice scoring them.

Science: This week we will learn about fish and different characteristics they have. We will also look at bugs and insects. Students will have the opportunity to “create their own bug” that they think will survive and share it with the class.

Social Studies: This week in social studies we will be talking about the wars that happened in Utah after the pioneers got here and what happened to the Native Americans after many people moved to Utah. Then we will talk about industry in Utah and the impact it has had on the State.

This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #23 – 20 mins study
Lesson 11.4-P213, 11.5-P215, Extra Practice Ch. 11-P217-218
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday

Thanks!

Mrs. Wheatley
