May 22-26th

Dear Parents,

I can’t believe that it is already the end of the school year! We have had an amazing year! Your students are absolutely the best, and so are you! I hope everyone has an amazing and safe summer!

Just a few important items for this week:
·      There is no homework this week! But don’t forget that reading is super important! Encourage your student to continually read this week and all through summer so they can keep learning and growing!
·      On Monday we are having a dress rehearsal with all props and costumes for our plays. We are also having our school awards assembly at 9:30. We will also practice for the dance festival.
·      On Tuesday we will be performing our plays. We will perform them at 10:00 in the gym. Please come and see the product of all our hard work!
·      On Wednesday we will have the dance festival. It will start at 9:30 outside on the field.
·      On Thursday we will be having a Common Day. ALL students will come to school at 8:00 and leave at 2:15. We will be watching the Faculty vs 6th grade kickball game in the morning. At 11:30 we will have our final class store to spend our Maui Money. Students are allowed to bring items from home to sell at the store. Students must bring a signed note that is going home today to be able to sell their items. No homemade treats are allowed and students can only bring items that are their own and they didn’t go out and purchase for this store.  In the afternoon we will have our field day. Upper grades will be doing different races for field day.
·      On Friday we will meet for our last day. Students will bring home their report cards that day. We will have our own class awards celebrations, we will sign yearbooks, and we will write letters to next year’s 4th graders. School will be from 8:00-9:30.

Please let me know if you have any final questions for this last week of school and have a wonderful summer!

Spelling Lists #30

Here are the links to this week's spelling words. There are 3 different lists for students, according to their needs. The list your child brings home each week should say at the bottom the name of the list. You can also access the words on these links as well as games for students to study with.

May 15-19th

Dear Parents,

Last week we finished our SAGE tests. I am so proud of everyone! Almost everyone increased their scores from last year! Your student should know exactly how they did, so please ask them! Our class percentages of passing students increased this year. Our Language Arts and Math percentages increased by over 10%! That is so awesome! Be sure to congratulate your student on working so hard on the tests!

Here is what we are doing in class this week:

Reading/Writing: This week we will be finishing our DRAs. We will also continue practicing our plays. We will be performing our plays on Tuesday, May 23rd at 10:00 in the gym. Please come and see all the hard work we have put forth! Remember, we wrote these plays ourselves! Our homework is the last spelling list of the year #30 with a final review of prefixes and suffixes. Students should still be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs. This is the last week of reading logs as well.

Math: This week we will spend some of math and target time practicing our dance for the dance festival. Then we will create our own math board games. When we are finished with the games, we will play each other’s games. This will be the last week of math homework too. If students want to practice at home for the dance festival, here are some links to videos they can use to practice.

May 8-12th

Dear Parents,

Last week we started working on our last SAGE tests of the year. Thank you to all of those who sent their student with a note of encouragement! It was so sweet watching them read their notes from you, and I know it really made a difference! If you haven’t written a note to your student, feel free to for our last tests this week. It really means a lot to them to know that you care and are just encouraging them to do their best. Last week we went over our SAGE scores from last year. We made goals to do better than last year individually and as a class. So far students have been doing wonderfully! They have done amazingly on their science tests! I’m so excited to see how their Language Arts and Math tests end up! We will be finishing our Reading test on Tuesday during reading time. We will take our Math test on Wednesday during reading time as well and finish it during math on Thursday.

Also, the end of the term is coming up very quickly! All missing assignments need to be in by next Monday, May 15th. Please make sure your student gets any missing assignments in by then. If your student wants to retake a test to improve their grade, just let me know. They are welcome to retake tests during read aloud or recess.

Here is what we are doing in class this week:

Students should still be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs.

Social Studies: This week in social studies we will finish talking about the government. Then we will study for our cumulative test a bit together in class. Students should be studying their study guide at home for this test as well. My class will take the test on May 15th and Mrs. Frost’s class will take it on May 16th. I have sent a link to a Quizlet to students that they can play games and study flash cards for this test.
