Frequently Misspelled Words #3

May 16-20th
This week in reading we will be continuing to talk about strategies we use while reading. We will also keep working on finishing our Literature Circle books and meeting in our groups to talk about our books. We will have our last spelling list Frequently Misspelled Words #3 and 20 points should be turned in on Friday. Our last reading log will also be this week and should be turned in on Monday.
This week in social studies we will finish studying for and will take our Cumulative test. Students should also be studying for this at home this week. My class will take the test on Thursday and Mrs. Ditto's class on Friday.
The rest of class time will be spent on math games, vocabulary review, dance practice, and practicing our plays. Our Dance Festival will be on Wednesday May 25th at 9:30. Students should wear black shirts and jeans. We will be performing our plays on Tuesday May 24th at 9:30 AM. Please come watch us perform on these days! We have worked so hard and are so excited to show you our dance and our plays! Again, if you would be willing to help us this week while we practice our plays it would be much appreciated! We will be practicing around 10:00 each day this week. Please let me know if you would be able to come help us!

May 9-13th
First of all, I would like you to know that our class is doing so well on their testing! We are improving our scores from 3rd grade and from our Interim/Practice test earlier this year! I am very proud of everyone for working hard and focusing so well to do their best! We are almost done!
This week in reading we are going to be taking our Science Sage Test. Tuesday and Wednesday will be our Science test in Reading time. We will also be reading our Literature Circle books and taking about enjoying reading. Our spelling list will be Frequently Misspelled Words #2 and students should turn in 20 points worth of activities on Friday. They should also turn in their Reading Log on Monday.
This week in writing we will be starting our Plays. We will get our parts, start memorizing our lines, and practice our play. Students need to have their lines memorized by next Wednesday. They should be copying down their lines so that they can take them home to practice them. If any other parents want to come help us with our plays we would be happy to have you! We always need help practicing our plays and making our sets. We will be working on these at 1:00 each day during writing time.
This week for math homework we will be practicing our multiplication facts. I've noticed that students STILL need to practice these! This will also help students for 5th grade when they will need to know and pass off their facts again. Students need to complete 1 side of their facts sheet each night, but are welcome to time themselves on the other side if they want to. We will do some games during math time this week as well as practice our dance for the dance festival.
This week in social studies we will focus on studying and reviewing for our final social studies test. Students should have brought home a green study guide last week to study for the test. They should also be studying for this at home.
Lastly, our field trip is this week on Friday! If your student has not brought back their permission slip yet, they need to do that ASAP or else they will not be able to come with us. Please make sure on Friday if your student is bringing a home lunch that they remember it and that they come dressed for the weather. We will be outside for a bit of the field trip including lunch. If you have volunteered to come help us, thank you so much! Please look for a separate email to come soon with the details you will need to know.

Testing is beginning this week! Please remember if at all possible to have your students here at school and on time on testing days! This makes it much easier for us to make sure that all their testing gets done. Also, if you want to send healthy snacks with students to share with the rest of the class, that would be great! I love to let students take a couple of breaks during testing and healthy snacks are a great way for them to recharge their brain. Also, I want students to feel like they can do their best on these tests so they can truly show what they know. One thing that I would like you to do, is to write a note to your student and send it to school with them so they can read it before they begin a test, motivating them to do their best. I know that they love it when they know that you, their parents, believe in them. This is one little way to remind them that you believe in them and help them to not be nervous and to do their best. If you are unable to write them a note, I will be more than willing to write them a note that they can read.
This week in reading we will be doing our reading Sage test. Monday and Tuesday during reading time. After Sage tests, we will finish DRAs, and start Book Clubs/Literature Circles in our class. This week students will be picking the books they would like to read for their Literature Circle. Our Spelling for the last weeks of school will be lists of Frequently Misspelled Words. These are words that students should know by now but because they are frequently misspelled, we will be reviewing them. This week will be list #1. Students should do 20 points worth of work and turn them in on Friday. Students should also be completing their reading log to turn in on Monday.
This week in writing we are reading our Porquois Tales. They were due on Monday, today. The rest of the week we will be creating a portfolio of our work all year long. Students will choose 5 of the papers they have written this year to edit again. They will fix them and put them in a folder. We will also begin picking parts for our end of the year plays. Our class will put on plays that we will perform at the end of they year for you! If anyone would be willing to come into class to help us with these, please let me know! We will be starting our play practice next Monday during writing time.
This week in math we will be finishing our end of the year review. On Thursday and Friday during Math time we will be taking our Sage math test.
This week in social studies we will be finishing talking about government. We will have a mock election in class and will also researching and learning about the US and Utah Constitutions. Our last thing for social studies this year will be a cumulative end of the year test review things we have learned all year. Students will be getting a study guide at the end of this week for the test. They are expected to study for this test at home for homework, but we will do a bit of review in class. My class will take the test on May 19th and Mrs. Ditto's class will take it on May 20th.
Lastly, if your student has not brought back their permission slip for our field trip next week on Friday May 13th, please send it back as soon as possible! And if you have volunteered to come help us, I will be getting in touch with you a little later for details, so watch for an email from me about that.
