December 14-18th

This week in reading we will be comparing and contrasting Christmas books and movies. This will include reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas,  watching the movie, and comparing the two of them. Our spelling will be Christmas List #2 and students should turn in their 20 points on Friday. Students should still be filling in a Reading Log for this week, and it will be due on the Monday we get back in January.

This week in writing we will be reading our PJ Day letters to Mr. Campbell. These are due Monday. Students need to make sure that they have typed their letter and shared it with me so that I can grade it. We will also start writing a persuasive letter to Santa this week. This one will not be graded though.

This week in math we will learning about equivalent fractions. We will learn ways to find equivalent fractions and identify if fractions are equivalent to each other. We will also learn how to find common denominators between fractions and do word problems with fractions. Also, on Friday will be our Multiplication Ice Cream party. If your student hasn't passed of all their facts through 12, please help them study so they can pass off as much as they can before Friday!

This week in social studies we will be taking our Counties Test. My class takes this on Monday and Mrs. Ditto's on Tuesday. Most students have studied very hard for this test and I'm very proud of them!

Lastly, here are a couple last things to remember. On Wednesday we will have our 4th grade PJ day. We read letters to Mr. Campbell and he decided to let us have the PJ day!!! Students are NOT to bring pillows and blankets. It is not a party, just a day that we can wear our PJs. Also, our Christmas Sing will be on Thursday at 9:30 and 1:00. Please have your students wear a red or white shirt. And please come and hear us sing! They can wear a Santa Hat if they wish. It will be so much fun! Finally, on Friday will be our school wide PJ day. Students will be allowed to bring pillows and blankets because we will be having a class party that day as well.

Christmas Sing Practice

Here are our songs for students to practice at home!
                           Holly Jolly Christmas
Have a holly jolly Christmas
It's the best time of the year
I don't know if there'll be snow
But have a cup of cheer

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And when you walk down the street
Say hello to friends you know
And everyone you meet

Ho ho the mistletoe
Hung where you can see
Somebody waits for you
Kiss her once for me

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And in case you didn't hear
Oh, bygolly
Have a holly jolly Christmas
This year

Have a holly jolly Christmas
It’s the best time of the year

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And when you walk down the street
Say hello to friends you know
And everyone you meet

Ho ho the mistletoe
Hung where you can see
Somebody waits for you
Kiss her once for me

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And in case you didn't hear
Oh, bygolly
Have a holly jolly Christmas
This year

Jingle Bell Rock

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowin' and blowin' up bushels of fun
Now, the jingle hop has begun

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancin' and prancin' in Jingle Bell Square
In the frosty air

What a bright time, it's the right time
To rock the night away
Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go glidin' in a one-horse sleigh

Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jinglin' feet
That's the jingle bell rock, yeah

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancin' and prancin' in Jingle Bell Square
In the frosty air

What a bright time, it's the right time
To rock the night away

December 7-11th

This week in reading we will be doing some reviewing. We will review writing non-fiction summaries and will review rocks which students have been learning in science. Our spelling until Christmas will be lists of Christmas words. This week will be Christmas List #1. Students should still complete 20 points worth of activities this week to turn in on Friday. Students should also complete their Reading Log as well to turn in on Monday.

This week in writing we will be finishing our PJ Day letter. Students should be finished with their pre-writes. If they did not finish this in class, they were supposed to bring it home today to finish. We have started our rough drafts in class, so students should be finishing their rough draft, editing and revising it, and typing it on the computer. We will also put them into My Access. Hopefully, students' scores should increase from their Turkey Letters. I also will be showing students their scores on their Turkey Letters and giving them ideas to help their PJ letter be better than the Turkey Letter.

This week in math we will be taking our Place Value Test. We will review on Tuesday and students should come home with their pre-test to study from. We will take the test on Wednesday and then move on to Equivalent Fractions. In Target Time we will be reviewing Word Problems one last time. On Friday we will take our Word Problems test in Target Time.

This week in social studies our main focus will be on studying our counties. We will do a few other small activities but we will mainly finish our quizzes and study for the final test. Mrs. Ditto's class is taking their 2nd quiz on Monday. The 3rd and final quiz will be on Thursday for my class and Friday for Mrs. Ditto's class. The final test will be next week on Monday 12/14 for my class and Tuesday 12/15 for Mrs. Ditto's class. I have included the 3rd quiz's study guide and the final study guide here.

November 30th-December 4th

This week in reading we will be discussing connections between oral and visual presentations of a story. We will be reading the BFG Play and Where the Wild Things Are. Then, we will watch video clips of each and looking for connections. Our spelling will be Sort 29. Students need to do 20 points and turn them in on Friday. Students need to fill out a reading log for this week and turn it in on Monday as well. For last week, students only needed to fill in for Monday and Tuesday.

This week in writing we will be continuing our persuasive/opinion unit. We will begin a letter trying to persuade Mr. Campbell to or not to give us a Pajama Day just for the 4th grade. These will be due on Monday, December 14th when we will read them and pick 1 person to read their letter to Mr. Campbell. Students Turkey Letters were due last week so if they have not been turned in, they need to be finished at home and turned in.

This week in math we will be continuing to learn about place value. We will do some reviewing and learn how to rename numbers. This tends to be a hard concept for students. Here is an example. If I have 1,000 ones, it is the same as 100 tens, or 10 hundreds.

This week in social studies we will continue our recreation presentations. We will finish them and present them to the class. We are taking Quiz 1 for counties at the beginning of this week. My class will take Quiz 2 on Friday and Mrs. Ditto’s class will take it next Monday. Here is a copy of that quiz for you to help your students study.

November 23-24th

This week in reading we will be practicing our fluency. We will discuss how to read fluently by using expression, phrasing, a good rate, and reading accurately. We will also learn a little about the Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving. Students should complete a reading log for Monday and Tuesday of this week and turn it in on the Monday after Thanksgiving (next Monday). There will be no spelling homework for this week though! Spelling will resume next week.

This week in writing we will be finishing our Turkey vs Farmer letters. They are due tomorrow, Tuesday and we will read them to the class. If students have not typed these letters and shared them with me yet, they should have brought it home tonight to finish.

This week in math we will continue our place value unit. We will learn how to read and write numbers in word form, standard form, and expanded form. We will also learn how to compare numbers.

This week in social studies we will be continuing our Recreation Project. We will continue making presentations on our chosen activities. Students should be studying their counties at home. We will be taking our first quiz on these counties when we get back from the break next week. Here is a study guide for Quiz 1.

We will be getting on the bus right after the bell at 9:15 tomorrow. If your student misses the bus, they will have to stay at the school and miss the movie. Also, report cards will be coming home tomorrow. Please look for them when your student comes home. Lastly, I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe break!!!
