Dear Parents,
Spring Break is coming up so quickly! It is next week! We
have lots to do this week to get ready. I missed everyone while I was gone last
week, but I had the privilege of going to the Ron Clark Academy to learn from
some rock star teachers! I’m so excited to implement many of the things I
learned in our classroom!
Here is what we are doing in class this week:
Reading: This week we will be focusing on sequencing events
in a text. Our spelling is list #25 with consonant and le syllables. Students
should be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also
be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs.
Math: This week we will continue our decimals unit. We will focus
on comparing and ordering decimals first. Then we will do word problems
involving decimals, including problems with money. For Target Time this week we
will be doing fun a STEAM activity. I will only be assigning 2 pages of math
this homework. I want to give students a little break since they will be
working so hard on their writing this week!
Writing: This week we will be taking our SAGE Writing Test.
We will take it during reading time on Tuesday and Thursday. If your student is
an AM please make sure that they are on time those days, and if your student is
a PM, please make sure they are not checked out but are there for reading time
on those days. I will allow and
encourage students to bring a healthy snack for themselves or to share with the
class during the test. During class writing time we will have some fun reading
fairy tales and we will write plays based off of them.
Science: The students will work on a project summing up the
Utah environments unit. Students will make a book that includes a page on 3
Utah environments: deserts, wetlands, and forests. This will be an in class
assignment and students will have a rubric, so they know exactly what is
expected of them. The unit test on environments is coming up on Wednesday,
April 12th.
Social Studies: This week in social studies we will be talking
about different leaders in Utah’s history. We will each read about one, write a
short summary about their life, and share what we learned with the class. Then
we will start learning about supply and demand by learning about ghost towns in
Utah.
This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #25– 20 mins study
Lesson 9.4-P177, 9.6-P181
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday
Thanks!
Mrs. Wheatley
