Dear Parents,
We have gotten through almost everyone on the DRA and I am
so proud of everyone! Everyone has made such great improvements in their
reading so far this year and I love it! We have a class full of such great
readers!!!
Here is what we are doing in class this week:
Reading: This week we will be talking about cause and
effect. We will identify the causes and their effects in the texts we read. Our
spelling is list #16 with the inflectional endings -ed and -ing. Students
should be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also
be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs.
Math: This week we will be continuing our Measurement Unit.
We will be learning how to convert measurements of length and weight in the
Customary and Metric system. We will also learn about measurement benchmarks
and what measurement we would use for different things.
Writing: This week we will start our next writing project.
This time we will be writing a story based on some mysterious pictures by
Harris Burrdick. We will be imagining what is happening in the picture and
writing a story about it. This will be due next Friday.
Science: We get to learn about extinct animals this week! We
will talk a lot about dinosaurs specifically and learn 6 different theories as
to why scientists think dinosaurs are extinct.
Social Studies: This week in social studies we will be
talking about the influences of different cultures. Specifically we will talk
about when Columbus came to America and the cultural influences that were
brought over from Europe. Students should be working on their Genealogy Project
at home. It is due next week.
This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #16 – 20 mins study
Lesson 6.6-P123, 6.7-P125, 6.8-P127
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday
Thanks!
