Dear Parents,
I’m so proud of how students have been picking up
multiplication! The class did excellent on our multiplication test a little
while ago, and for the past week during Target Time, they have been doing even
better at it! Also, long division is coming along really well!
Here is what we are doing in class this week:
Reading: This week we will be continuing to work identifying
main ideas and writing summaries of non-fiction texts. Our spelling is list #9
with r-controlled vowels. Students should be spending 20 minutes studying their
words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out
their reading logs.
Math: This week we will be finishing long division. We will
review and do lots of practice on the algorithm in class and we will take our
test on Thursday. Wednesday, students should bring home their pre-test as a
study guide. Please go over this with your student to make sure they know how
to do long division before our test! In Target Time we will be continuing double
digit and 4 digit by 1 digit multiplication. Their homework will be reviewing
division this week.
Writing: This week we are continuing our opinion writing. We
will finish our Ben Franklin writing together and we will revise and type our
essays. We will be putting our opinion essays in an online grading program
called My Access. Students this week will learn how to do this and will be able
to instantly see how they did on their essay.
Science: To start our rock unit off, we will be comparing
and contrasting weathering and erosion. We will learn an erosion dance and a
saying to help differentiate between the two. We will also watch a video that
explains erosion more in depth. The students overall did well on their science
weather tests. They will have an opportunity to do a make-up assignment at home
to add points onto their score. This assignment is due by Friday, November
11th. These makeup points will only be available to those who got below a 90%
on their science test.
Social Studies: This week in social studies we will be
talking about how humans change their environment. We will also pretend to
develop a city in the middle of nowhere and figure out what we would need to do
to the environment to build the city. We will also study our counties in class.
Students should also be practicing memorizing their counties at home.
This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #9– 20 minutes of study and list signed by parent
Lesson 4.2-P71, 4.4-P75, 4.6- P79, 4.9-P85
Study Counties and County Seats
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday
Thanks!
Mrs. Wheatley
