November 14-18th

Dear Parents,

We have been working so hard on our double-digit multiplication and our long division! I am so proud of everyone! We have been understanding both, doing well on both, and making huge improvements from where we started from! Also, I would like to do book orders from Scholastic this month. I have 1 student that has ordered a book, but I need more to make a full order. If you are interested it getting books this month through book orders, please look for the fliers coming home this week in white envelopes. There are instructions on the white envelope for how to order books online or you can send your student with the order form and a check to me. I want to order books by Monday November 28th, so please have them ordered online by then or brought back to me by then.

Here is what we are doing in class this week:

Reading: This week we will be focusing on poetry. We will read poems, learn about meter, rhyme, and figurative language in poems. Our spelling is list #10 with suffixes. Students should be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs.

Math: This week we will be working on our Word Problems Unit. We will do multiplication, division, area and perimeter, and estimating word problems. In Target Time we will review long division.

Writing: This week we are continuing our opinion writing by writing about if we should eat turkeys for Thanksgiving or not. This is due on Tuesday November 22nd, the last day before Thanksgiving Break. Students will type this and put it into myaccess.com for a score. They should know how to do this. They have their username and password glued into their planner.

Science: This week in science we will work on our new vocabulary words about rocks. We will also review weathering and erosion. We have a new “rock” song that we will start learning this week about the 3 kinds of rocks. We will specifically focus on sedimentary rocks this week and discuss what they are and examples of sedimentary rocks.

Social Studies: This week in social studies we will be talking first about environmental issues in Utah. Then we will talk about recreation in Utah. We will begin a project where we share with a PowerPoint presentation of our favorite recreational activity in Utah.

This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #10– 20 minutes of study and list signed by parent
Lesson 4.10-P87, 4.11-P89, Chapter 4 Extra Practice P93-94
Study Counties and County Seats
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday

Thanks!

Mrs. Wheatley
