November 28th -December 2nd

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This is going to be a great week where students can show me how much they have improved with their math word problems, opinion writing, and with memorizing their counties. I’m so excited to see how they all do!

Here is what we are doing in class this week:

Reading: This week we will be focusing on the point of view of the author in Literature. We will talk about who is telling the story, a first person or third person, as well as their perspective on the events in the story. Our spelling is list #11 with r-controlled vowels. Students should be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs.

Math: This week we will be finishing our Word Problems Unit. We will review how to do multiple step problems and review all the different kinds of word problems we have talked about. We will be taking our test on Thursday, so students should be bringing home their pretest as a study guide on Wednesday. In Target Time we will continue reviewing long division.

Writing: This week we are continuing our opinion writing by writing about if we think white lies are ok to tell or if we should never tell lies. This is due on Friday  December 2nd. Students will still be receiving guidance from me as they write, but this essay will mostly be on their own. We will focus on developing good reasons and details using an article to help us. Students will type this and put it into myaccess.com for a score. They should know how to do this. They have their username and password glued into their planner.

Science: This week we will learn and review the different kinds of sedimentary rocks. We will also focus on rock vocabulary words by playing BINGO. We will continue to work on understanding the 3 main types of rocks: metamorphic, igneous, and sedimentary.

Social Studies: This week in social studies we will be taking our first counties test on Thursday and Friday. Again, students are welcome to use the study guides/answer keys on my blog to help them study: http://mrswheatleysfourthgrade.blogspot.com/2016/11/county-study-guides.html. We will also continue to work on our Recreation Project in class. We will be presenting these to the class next week.

This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #11– 20 minutes of study and list signed by parent
Lesson 2.2-P25, 3.7-P63, 13.1-P247, 13.2-P249
Study Counties and County Seats – Quiz 1 is Thursday
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday

Thanks!
Mrs. Wheatley
