January 26-30th

This week in reading we are continuing to review science through literature. We are reading books and memorizing poems about science content we have learned this year. We are finishing the DRA so that you can see these scores at Parent Teacher Conferences next week. For our persuasive essay this week we are answering the question: should women compete against men in sports? This essay is due this Friday, January 30th. Remember, the web, rough draft (on the given pink paper), typed on Google Docs, and entered into My Access all need to be done. The web and rough draft need to be handed in to me and the Google Doc needs to be shared with me. Once it is put into My Access, that will automatically send me their score.

This week in writing we are doing one last persuasive essay. This essay asks: should we or should we not spend time and resources studying our garbage? This will be done entirely in class. I am letting students do this completely on their own, to see how ready they are for the writing test. This is due on Friday and needs to be typed and into Google Docs and My Access as well. Students should have plenty of time to do this in class if they are using their time wisely. If not, students will need to finish this assignment at home.

This week in math we are finishing our measurement unit. We are practicing and reviewing for our test which is on Thursday. Students should be able to convert measurements, understand measurement benchmarks, and do story problems with measurements.

This week in social studies we are presenting our Genealogy Projects. Students will get all of the points on this if they follow the rubric on the bottom of the page. If students have not turned this in yet, please have them turn it in this week so they can get their points for presenting it to the class.

Don't forget to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences! You can go online or call the office to help you make an appointment. I'm excited to discuss with you how you student is doing in class, the progress they are making, and how to help them best. This week we are also taking our interim Sage tests. My class will be taking the math test. This is strictly so we can get experience taking the Sage tests and to help us know how to prepare and what we need to go over more before we take the end of the year Sage test.
