January 20-23rd

This week in reading we are continuing our DRAs. So far, students are working so hard on these and that makes me very happy! In class we will be reading books about rocks to review what students have learned in science. Again, there is no spelling this week. This is our 2nd week with our Field Trip Essay. Please help your student write their draft, edit and revise it, type it into Google Docs, and get it into My Access. We again will have the Chromebooks on Friday if students need to type their essay in class. This essay is due this Friday, January 23rd. Students need to turn in their prewrite, rough draft which has been edited and revised, and must have their essay in My Access.

This week in writing we are continuing to work on opinion/persuasive essays. We are working on our opinion about Junk Food Commercials. This essay is done in class and students will be given a grade for their essay. If it is not completed in class by this Friday, students need to take it home and compete it there.

This week for math we are working on our measurement unit. We will be talking about metric length and mass and customary weight and capacity. In Target Time we are working on division word problems to practice our long division and to practice word problems.

This week in social studies we will be talking about when Europeans came to America and met with the Native Americans. We will talk about the first Europeans to come to America, and then talking about the first Europeans to come to Utah and meet the Native American Tribes here. On Friday we will begin presenting our Genealogy Projects. Remember, my class's projects are due this Friday, and Miss Goldsborough's class's projects are due on Monday.
