Science Vocabulary Words

Students should study the meanings of these words this week for 20 minutes.

1. condensation: water vapor that cools and changes back into a liquid
2. evaporation: the change of a substance from a liquid to a gas (vapor)
3. precipitation: any form of water that falls from clouds onto Earth's surface
4. vapor: liquid in the air in the form of a gas
5. air pressure: the weight of air on Earth's surface
6. cirrus: thin, wispy clouds
7. cumulus: thick, puffy clouds
8. stratus: layered clouds that produce drizzle
9. cumulonimbus: big, stormy clouds that produce lots of rain
10. meteorologist: a scientist who studies weather
11. barometer: an instrument that measures air pressure
12. thermometer: devise used to measure temperature
13. rain gauge: a container set outside to measure the amount of precipitation
14. weather vane: a devise used to find wind direction
15. anemometer: a devise used to measure wind speed
