February 22-26th

This week in reading we will continue to learn about text structures. We will focus on description, problem and solution, and sequence. Then we will practice reading a paragraph and deciding which text structure it is. We will be taking an assessment on this on Friday in class. Our spelling for the week is Sort 45 with ph and gh words. They need to do their 20 points worth of activities and turn them in to me on Friday. Students still need to fill out a reading log to turn in on Monday as well.

This week in writing we are finishing our Author Reports. They are due THIS FRIDAY, FEB. 26TH! If students have not finished writing the written report, they should be finishing this at home. Please check with your student to see if they have this finished. This is our 4th week working on this, so their written report, REALLY should be finished by now. We will focus on making our posters in class this week. If your student can bring a poster for their report, please have them bring it as soon as possible. If not, I can get one for them. We will also present our reports this week as soon as students begin finishing them. All of writing time on Friday will be presenting the reports, so if students are not completely done with their paper and poster by Thursday, they should take it home to finish it before Friday. Students are receiving up to 100 points for their written report, 100 for their poster, and 100 for their oral presentation. If students do not have their report and poster ready to present on Friday, they will not be able to receive all of their points for their presentation. We do not have time to spend presenting half of the class's reports once we move on to the next unit next week. PLEASE help make sure your student gets this all done by Friday!

This week in math we are learning more about Geometry. We are learning about quadrilaterals, symmetry, and shape patterns. We are making a book of notes to help us with our shapes as well. In Target Time we will be going over measurement. We will also be having our Target Time party on Friday, so students are welcome to bring board games to play on Friday during our party.

This week in social studies we will be discussing what life was like when the pioneers got to Utah. We will talk about them settling the Salt Lake Valley as well as other cities, and discuss other things they did here.
