February 16-19th

This week in reading we are going to learn about the different text structures of non-fiction text. We will focus on learning about cause and effect and compare and contrast text structures and identifying them in texts. For homework we will be going back to spelling sorts. Since it was a short week, students only need to do 15 points of spelling activities this week. Our sort will be Sort 44. Students should also be filling out a reading log this week to turn in next Monday. If students have homework essays that they have not completed, students can type them in class on Friday after they take their spelling test.

This week in writing we will be finishing our written papers for our Author Report. We will focus on editing and revising, and will type these papers. Next week we will be working on our poster for our Author Report in class. Students will need a poster for their author report. We will try to do all of our poster in class next week as well. If students cannot bring their own poster, they just need to let me know and I will get one for them.

This week in math we are starting our Geometry Unit. We will learn about the different types of angles, lines, line segments, rays, parallel and perpendicular lines, etc . . .  We will also learn how to classify triangles. In Target Time this week we will continue working with equivalent fractions. Students who did not pass their original Equivalent Fractions test will retake this test in Target Time this week.

This week in social studies we will begin talking about the Pioneers. We will look at the route the Pioneers took to get to Utah and what it was like for these people as they traveled to Utah.

Last but not least, don't forget that all missing assignments are due this Friday, February 19th. Please make sure that anything your student has not gotten turned in yet gets turned in this week.
