May 1-5th

Dear Parents,

Last week was such a wonderful teacher appreciation week! Thank you for everything you do to support us at school! You parents really are wonderful! For your information, we will be starting 2 more SAGE tests this week. On Monday and Tuesday we will be taking the SAGE Science test during Reading time. On Thursday we will start taking our Reading test during math, which is before lunch. We will finish that test next week. I sent an email to you on Saturday about this as well. If you didn’t get a chance to read that email, for testing days, I encourage parents to send an encouraging note to school with their student to help them not stress about the test and to do their best. I also encourage students to bring HEALTHY snacks, no junk food, to snack on during testing.

Here is what we are doing in class this week:

Reading: This week we will be doing our DRAs. I am so excited to see how much students have grown this year! We will also start practicing our plays. We will be performing our plays the last week of school. I will let you know the exact date and time when it is officially scheduled with the office. Our homework is spelling list #28 with prefixes. Students should still be spending 20 minutes studying their words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out their reading logs.

Math: This week we will continue reviewing for the SAGE test. We will be finishing our fraction flip book review we started last week, reviewing all fraction concepts we went over this year. Then we will do some SAGE practice problems, go over specifics we had a hard time with on our review test, and play some review games.

Writing: This week we will sharing our Porquois tales. This is the last writing project that will go on students’ grades. We will be blending writing with reading for the rest of the year so we can work on our plays, do the DRA, and other reading activities during both of these times.

Social Studies: This week in social studies we will begin to talk about government. We will discuss the roles of citizens, government officials, as well as talk about elections. Students should be studying their study guide at home for their end of the year cumulative test. My class will take the test on May 15th and Mrs. Ditto’s class will take it on May 16th. I will be sending a link to a Quizlet to students that they can play games and study flash cards for this test. https://quizlet.com/138640165/social-studies-cumulative-review-flash-cards/

This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #28 – 20 mins study
Chapter 7 Extra Practice P153-154, Chapter 8 Extra Practice P167-168
Study for Social Studies Cum. Test
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday

Thanks!
Mrs. Wheatley
