Dear Parents,
I was so glad I got to meet with all of you last week! You
are amazing and such supportive parents, and you have the greatest kids! We
have such a wonderful class this year! Just don’t forget, all missing
assignments need to be in by Tuesday, February 14th. Also, on
Tuesday, Valentines Day, we will be passing out Valentines and having a
Valentines Day Party. Students should make and bring a Valentines box to school
that day. If they can’t make one at home, they are welcome to make one with me
at recess. Students are welcome to bring Valentines to pass out that day as
well. We have 28 students in our class. If you cannot get Valentines for your
student, let me know and I’ll take care of it.
Here is what we are doing in class this week:
Reading: This week we will be talking about the theme in
poems. We will read some narrative poetry, discuss elements of poetry, and
identify the theme in the poems we read. Our spelling is list #20 with the ô
sound as in aw and ough. Students should be spending 20 minutes studying their
words this week. They should also be reading 20 minutes a night and filling out
their reading logs.
Math: This week we will be taking our mixed numbers test on
Monday. This test will go on the next Trimester’s grades, not this current one,
so that we have time to review and then retake the test. Next we will start our
Geometry Unit. We will learn about angles, lines, and triangles this week.
Writing: This week we will finish our animal report.
Students will read their reports to each other and help each other to improve
their papers. Then we will edit, revise, and type our paper. It will be due this
Friday, February 17th.
Science: We will learn about deserts this week and what
plants and animals thrive in deserts. We will also review forests by playing
memory. Later on this week we will have a quiz about the 3 environments as well
as play review BINGO on animals and what habitats they live in.
Social Studies: This week in social studies we will be
reviewing the timeline of important events in Utah’s history up through
explorers coming through Utah. Then we will begin talking about the Mormon
Pioneers and how they got to Utah.
This week’s homework:
Read 20 mins each day and fill out a pink reading log
Spelling #20 – 20 mins study
Lesson 7.8-P147, 7.10-P151, 12.5-P229, 7.9-P149
*Math, reading, and spelling are due on Friday
Thanks!
Mrs. Wheatley
