Dear Parents,
Last week we
worked so hard on our behavior that we earned some extra recess! We are so
excited to start PE this week for specialties. Please make sure that your
student wears proper shoes for running and playing.
Here is what we
are doing in class this week:
Reading: This
week we will be reading different texts and focusing on identifying the
problem and the solution in them. Students will receive spelling
list #2. This week our spelling words will all have the long a sound made with
different spellings. Students should bring home their list on Monday and again
spend at least 20 minutes studying their words this week. Parents should sign
off on the bottom with how many minutes their student spent studying and they
will turn it in on Friday. Students should also be filling out a reading log to
turn in on Friday.
Math: This week we
are finishing our Place Value Unit. We will take our test on Tuesday. Students
are welcome to retake the test after further studying and practicing the
material to bring up their grade. Students should be bringing home a blue pre-test to use as a study guide tonight. Please go over it with your student to make sure they are ready for the test tomorrow. Remember that for homework, students should
do the ENTIRE front page and on the back they
only need to do the FIRST 2 problems of each page. They are
due on Friday.
Writing: This week
in writing we will be finishing our Personal Narrative. The rough draft should
be finished by Monday, September 12th and the final draft will be due on
Friday. We will read them to the class on Friday. We will edit and revised our
rough drafts in class and will then type them in class as well. If students
have not finished these in class on Thursday, they should bring them home to
finish typing in their school Google Docs and sharing them with me on Google
Drive. They will get into their Docs by signing into their school email just
like they do at school on the computers or Chromebooks. Please let me know if
you need any help making sure they have their paper typed by Friday.
Science: Our
water cycle unit is coming to a close. This week we will review the water cycle
by playing Jeopardy as well as by taking a practice test in class. The water
cycle unit test will be next Tuesday, September 20th. If your
student wants to review or study at home, here is the link to the jeopardy
