April 27th - May 1st
This week in reading we are continuing to go over our review assessments. We will focus on explaining things from a text as well as figuring out words using context clues. We will also be working on our DRA. We have made goals based on our last DRA and hope to make progress on this last DRA of the year. Our spelling sort this week in Sort 56. These are geography words and are sorted by syllable. They are quite tricky to spell so make sure your students do their spelling homework!
This week in writing we are continuing to work on our Porquois Tales. We will write our rough drafts, edit and revise them, and work on our storyboards. These stories we will make into books when we are done with them.
This week in math we are reviewing for our Sage test next week. In class we are focusing on fractions and in Target Time we are focusing on numbers in base ten operations. We also have been doing a self-assessment checklist which students will bring home this week. This will show you what things your student needs to review with you at home. If you would like to give your student more practice on the standards they need work on, just do a Google Search for the standard attached to each item listed that your student did not put a check next to. You will find plenty on the internet to help your student understand each concept.
This week in social studies we will be continuing to talk about the economics of Utah. We will also begin to talk about our rights and responsibilities as a citizen.
For science, Miss Goldsborough is sending home some tests to help your student review for our Sage Science test. When your student brings them home, please help them to find the answers. They can look them up on the internet to find the answers if they need to.

This week in reading we are reviewing the concepts on our review assessments from last week. We will be going through the assessments that most students had the hardest time on and reviewing those concepts. We will review integrating 2 texts for information, understanding the meanings of words based on context clues in the text, and 1st hand and 2nd hand accounts. Our spelling is Sort 55 with "i before e except after c" words. These can be tricky to remember when to actually put i before e and when e goes before i. 20 points still need to be turned in on Friday.
This week in writing we will be starting our Porquois Tales. These are stories that explain why or how something is the way it is: for example, how the zebra got it's stripes. We will be reading examples and then starting our own.
This week in math we will be finishing our multiplying fractions by a whole number unit. We will do word problems with these type of problems and take our test on Wednesday. Students took a pre-test today on this. We will go over this tomorrow and they can take it home to study and practice. Then we will start our end of the year review. In Target Time we are continuing to review how to do long division. We will focus on long division in word problems.
This week in social studies we are presenting our Native American Homes. My class's projects were due today and Miss Goldsborough's class's projects are due tomorrow. Then we will continue to talk about Economics, specifically the Economics of Utah.
Don't forget! Our field trip is on Thursday. Please make sure that your students come dressed appropriate for the weather. Also, please make sure that they are on time to school. We will leave at 9:20 so if students are late, they will not be able to come.

This week in reading we are finishing our Review Assessments. We will be focusing on assessments that ask questions about fictional texts. These are reviewing things that we have talked about all year long and are meant to give me information about what we still need to go over. Our spelling sort is Sort 54 with Homographs. These are words that are written the same but mean different things and are said a little different. Words that have the first half bolded are nouns like a present you get for your birthday. Words that have the second half bolded are verbs like present where you present your report to the class. Students still need to do the normal 20 points worth of homework.
This week in writing we will be finishing our Animal Reports. They are due on this Friday. We will be typing our reports on Google Docs. Students need to share these with me so we can put them on our Class Blog. On Friday we will present them to the class on the blog and write comments on the blog about the reports.
This week in math we are taking Review Assessments as well. These are reviewing all that we have learned in math so far as well as the last thing we will be learning. Then, we will go through our last unit. We will learn how to multiply fractions by a whole number. We will learn that this is just adding multiple fractions together. In Target Time we will be reviewing long division.
This week in social studies we will be finishing our communities that we are drawing. We will also talk about what supply and demand are. Then, we will begin learning about economics, what they are and the economics in Utah. Also, don't forget that the Native American Homes Project is due next week on Monday April 20th for my class Tuesday April 21st for Miss Goldsborough's class.
