October 13-15

This week in reading we are continuing to talk about characters, setting, and events in stores. Our for spelling we are doing Sort 17 for this week and next week. This means that for this week and next week students only need to do 20 points worth of activities total. They still should read each day and turn in a reading log for both weeks, but they will have 2 weeks to get their spelling done.

This week in writing we are working on our drafts of our Haunted House. Students should have brought home on Friday their pre-write if they are not done with it yet so we can write our rough draft. Students are required to describe 4 things in each room of the house, and include a transition word, vivid verb, and preposition at the beginning of each room/paragraph.

This week in math we are learning how to do long division. We will learn and practice the steps. To help us remember the steps, we will learn that we do the steps in this order: Dad (divide), Mom (multiply), sister, (subtract), brother (bring down), and rover (remainder).

This week in social studies we are going to finish presenting our County Reports. Then we will talk about population concentration, figure out where most people live in Utah, and decide where we would like to live in Utah.
