March 28-April 1st

This week in reading we will be doing some more reviewing. We will review the areas we have scored the lowest in on our reading assessments in class. We will be reviewing plays, prose, and dramas, main ideas, and text structures. We will also be taking our writing testing this week during reading time. Students need to do 20 points of activities for Sort 53 of Homophones this week and turn them in on Friday. They also need to do their reading log to turn in on Monday.

This week we will be taking our Sage Writing test. We will be taking it tomorrow and Wednesday during reading time. Please make sure that your student is here on time on those days to take this test. This year, testing will be a little different. The intention of the test is not to make students take a long time to do a test, but to have them do a quick writing sample. Because of that, students will only be given 90 minutes to do each essay. Students will have 2, 90 minute blocks, 1 block to do their opinion writing and 1 block to do their explanatory writing. When time is up for that day, students will have to finish that essay and can not come back to it to finish. Students can take breaks during the writing block and students are welcome to bring healthy snacks to share with the class. We will set up a break station in the alcove where students can take a 2-3 minute break and share their healthy snacks before going back to work. When we are not working on our writing test we will be writing our rough draft for our Animal Report.

This week in math we will be finishing our decimals unit. We will be comparing decimals, doing word problems with decimals and money, and we will review before we take our test. Students should bring home their pre-test for a study guide on Thursday and we will take our test on Friday.

This week in social studies we will begin talking about economics. We will start by talking about supply and demand and learn a little about ghost towns in Utah. We will talk about why they are ghost towns. We will also learn what producers and consumers are and how they impact communities.
